INE Committee Meetings – Revised Dates

Dear Congregants,

As you know, the INE committee had announced our intention to conduct three congregational meetings to give every member the opportunity to hear the latest information about our plan to create a new entity with Congregation Ohr Shalom. The meetings will offer clarification and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions. Leaders of Ohr Shalom, including the president and/or the Rabbi will participate in each meeting and there may be additional people from Ohr Shalom there, too.

Dates and times are:

  • Wednesday, March 18, at 7:30 pm
  • Sunday, March 22, at 10:30 am/li>
  • Tuesday, April 7, at 7:30 pm

We will schedule additional meetings if the demand warrants them. These meetings are especially important for those who did not attend the congregational meeting on Sunday, January 26. Come and get the facts you will need to help you decide how to vote.

INE Committee Meetings Postponed

The meetings currently scheduled for the congregation to learn more about the proposed creation of a new entity with Congregation Ohr Shalom on February 25 and March 9 have to be rescheduled due to schedule conflicts.

The INE (Investigating a New Entity) Committee will provide new dates as soon as possible.

Joint Service with Ohr Shalom and Sha’arey Shalom

Please join Temple Sha’arey Shalom and the JCC as we share a service at the Kent Place Ohr Shalom synagogue in Summit on Friday, February 28th, at 5:45 pm.

Come see and hear what the new entity might look and sound like. It may answer some of your questions. Both Rabbi Renee and Rabbi Avi will be leading the service.

Sammy Levy Mitzvah Project – BUDDY UP with Special Needs Child to Play Sports

Sammy’s love for sports, and the opportunity to share that passion with children who need extra support, is the basis for his Mitzvah Project. He is organizing a “Buddy Day” at the Community Center in Summit so he, and other student athletes, can spend time with kids who benefit from the tryCAN program for Special Needs.

He hopes to raise $2,000 for tryCAN at the event, which is Monday, February 17th (President’s Day), from 10 am to 1 pm.

Greetings from the President of Ohr Shalom/Summit JCC to TSS members

Greetings to our new friends!

I am the current president of Congregation Ohr Shalom - Summit JCC. I, our board, our members, clergy, and staff are excited about the possibilities that a combination of our two congregations present. Having met with a number of your members and your wonderful rabbi, I share the conviction that we are a terrific match, sharing a common vision and approach to cultural, social and justice issues. As they say, though, seeing is believing.

I invite you to attend our services as well as any or all of our upcoming events. Below is the email blast that went out to our members highlighting January and February programs (and, of course, you can always go to www.summitjcc.org).

I particularly want to highlight our Artist in Residence weekend - January 24-26. This annual event brings in noteworthy contemporary musicians from around the country (and world) who perform during services and offer concerts during the 3 days. It is always amazing to see and hear the energy they bring and the spirit and participation they evoke.

I hope to see you soon.

With Regards,
Phil Kantor
